Arch window frames prepped for painting

Aluminium joinery is designed to last, and whether you have windows, ranch sliders, or window and door handles only a small amount of maintenance is required. If you have re-coated with Systemex then cleaning only needs to take place twice a year. And you can easily wash the joinery when you are cleaning the windows or washing down the house in general. A mild diluted detergent, used with a soft sponge should do the trick.

On the whole, it is beneficial to wash all corners, removing cobwebs or any other buildup. If you live within 1 km of the ocean, industrial locations or geothermal areas you may need to rinse down exterior joinery once a month with cold water to remove any adverse residue. Windows and doors that are covered by verandas or eves sometimes need an extra wash as they do not receive the natural wash from rainfall. Do not use any acid or alkali cleaners, abrasive cloths or scrapers as these may have a harmful effect on the aluminium.

Here are 3 easy steps to follow:

1 – Remove any residue, surface deposits or buildup with soft wet cloth.

2 – Wash with diluted household cleaner, for example pH-neutral dishwashing liquid.

3 – Rinse with cold water.

Your aluminium joinery is a big part of your home’s look. That’s why it is important to keep up with the maintenance like any other part of your house. We believe at Systemex that cleaning should be simple and regular, that way your joinery will look and last the distance.
